The Minister of State for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, has expressed gratitude and renewed commitment to advancing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) agenda as he seeks re-election as Member of Parliament for Ngariam County in Katakwi District.

Speaking moments after being duly nominated by Katakwi District Returning Officer Stephen Makubuya, Ogwang thanked his nominators and the NRM leadership for their support and trust, saying he is ready to continue serving the people under the party’s development agenda.

“I want to thank my first denominator, Papa, and the second, Atoto. I also thank my party, the chairman of NRM, and the entire executive, including the NRM Electoral Commission and all our supporters in Ngariam and Katakwi at large,” Ogwang said.

Ogwang, who is seeking another term in Parliament, emphasized that his focus will remain on implementing the NRM Manifesto, which he said captures the priorities that directly affect ordinary Ugandans.

“The NRM Manifesto spells out what we are meant to do as a party in education, health, water, infrastructure, economic empowerment, and electricity,” he explained. “My role is to ensure that these commitments are fulfilled.”

The minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to compensate families affected by cattle rustling across the Teso-Karamoja corridor, an initiative he described as a major step toward restoring livelihoods in the region.

“It is true this area has been ravaged and affected. The President has come up with a hybrid approach to compensate families who lost cattle,” Ogwang said. “He has guided that all households within Teso should be helped to get five cows each, and my role, together with the party, is to follow it up.”

Ogwang called on residents to maintain unity and rally behind the NRM, assuring them that the government remains committed to improving social services and ensuring lasting peace in the region.

“I am now a duly nominated candidate. Mine is to serve faithfully, deliver on our promises, and ensure that Ngariam and Katakwi continue to benefit from the NRM government,” he concluded.

Ogwang will face Daniel Mulalu, the President’s Private Secretary on Political Affairs, Augustine Otuko, and others in the race for the Ngariam County parliamentary seat in Katakwi District.
